Gluten-Free Sandwiches Made to Order at New Cascadia Traditional Bakery in Portland
by Chris on Jan 28, 2011 • 3:55 pm Be the first to commentI lived in Portland between 2005 and early 2010 and quickly became a fan of New Cascadia Traditional Bakery. Most of the time that I was there, they had a very small space next to Trader Joe’s with limited hours, but now they have a new space with more normalized hours and they seem to be doing well. They have a huge selection of gluten-free baked goods as well as gluten-free pizzas and desserts.
With all of the hoopla about Subway testing gluten-free sandwiches and the huge uproar about the threat of cross-contamination, gluten-free bakeries like New Cascadia are answering back with hand-made gluten-free sandwiches to order. Why wouldn’t you go to a place like this to enjoy a wonderful gluten-free sandwich free from the fear that you associate with a fast food chain? If you’re lucky enough to live in Portland, New Cascadia is the place to be — if you live elsewhere, seek out your local retail GF bakeries that offer custom sandwiches or ask your local retail GF bakery to start offering this. There’s nothing better than patronizing a dedicated gluten-free business.
