I know many of my readers already know this, but I’m sure there are quite a few that do not. I’m also a photographers agent to 15 incredible photographers, several of whom shoot food. One photographer in particular that I represent is Hugh Forte the visual mastermind (his wife Sara is the writer) behind the blog, Sprouted Kitchen. While their blog is by no means dedicated to gluten-free recipes (although you will find them occasionally), it has to be one of the most visually stunning blogs around. Hugh’s photography is mesmerizing and could easily be framed as artwork, let alone as the vehicle to illustrate recipes.
Beyond my role of getting photographers like Hugh work in the advertising and publishing world, I also produce photography workshops. These aren’t your usual workshops, these are real “get your hands dirty” workshops that focus on instruction. They’re main objective is to improve your photography and introduce you to the world of a professional photographer and how they approach their work. While your goal may not be to become a professional photographer (many people may not admit it, but they do fantasize about the idea of selling their work), these workshops can go a long way in not only improving your work, help you gain followers by showing your recipes the way you want them to look, and teaching you best practices in terms of how and when people can use your work (both paid and unpaid).
So, all of this being said, my next workshop with Hugh is in San Francisco from September 14 – 16, 2012. It’s three days of super intensive instruction covering more than you ever thought you could learn in a weekend. You’ll get to shoot in one of San Francisco’s premiere photo studios, Blue Sky SF as well as at Domicile SF, a stunning kitchen showroom. You’ll get the chance to walk the unrivaled Ferry Plaza Farmers Market with both Hugh an Sara and pick some truly great ingredients for that days shoot.
Whether it’s for yourself or as a gift for someone else, it’s a great way to spend a weekend and even better since it’s in San Francisco. I’m really looking forward to meeting some of you.
