Beyond the great recipe for the Spring Buckwheat, Chocolate and Chestnut Pudding Cakes, Aran of Canelle et Vanille has posted a (very well written) reminder on how lucky we all are to have what we have and how everything can be lost in an instant. I live in Southern California and often think about how quickly things could change with a big earthquake. I try my hardest to stay prepared, but is it ever enough? The situation in Japan — considered to be the most prepared place on Earth for such an event — is a eye-opening reminder that you can never do enough.

How we can lose it all in an instant. In the blink of an eye our lives can turn upside down. Such devastation.

As soon as I heard about the news on Friday, I thought of my friend Keiko and wondered how her loved ones would be doing. I tried to imagine how I would deal with such news from afar, just as she is. Then, she confirmed her family is well. A sigh of relief.
