Homemade Sugar-Free Ketchup
by Spoonful of Sugar Free

If you have kids, you know that there’s not one of them alive that doesn’t like ketchup. To be honest, it’s probably a favorite of most American adults as well. Personally, I haven’t touched the stuff in years as most of what can be bought in the stores is absolutely abysmal in terms of ingredients — hfcs or sugar and of course, my favorite ingredient, the ubiquitous “natural flavors”. I mean, why can’t they call out what the “natural flavors” are? You might be surprised to hear what those “natural flavors” really are.

That part about me not trying it in years has actually changed. I tried this homemade ketchup from Alex of Spoonful of Sugar Free just yesterday and it was absolutely amazing.  I put it on a grass-fed burger and all that I can says that I had forgotten how good ketchup really was. Even my kids who like things overly sweet liked the way it turned out. This just goes along perfectly with what I’m constantly saying, there’s nothing better than real food.

Whether with this ketchup or any other DIY food item, do yourself a favor and kick the store bought stuff to the curb and you’re body will thank you for it.

My recipe is a whole lot healthier than regular Heinz, too. Just about every bottled ketchup you buy from stores contains added sugar, usually in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Here is the ingredients list from the famous Heinz:

Tomato concentrate from vine ripe tomatoes, Distilled Vinegar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Salt, Spice, Onion Powder, Natural Flavoring.

The third and fourth ingredient of ketchup is sugar made from corn.
