I never had real coffee cake until I was an adult. In my childhood, I only ever had the Hostess ones and those were usually frozen. I had my first real coffee cake at a bakery in London in 1990 — it was fresh, hot, and needless to say, delicious. Since my celiac diagnosis in 1999, I’ve had a few different gluten-free coffee and/or crumb cakes, some were good and some were way too dry and basically inedible.
These from Hey, that tastes good! are definitely on my list to try — if any of her previous recipes (I’ve tried a lot of them) are any indication, they will be perfect.

Back in high school, I used to go to this deli and get sandwiches and coffee cake, and this is pretty close to the coffee cake that I used to love. Hooray! The cake is soft and moist and buttery, and the crumb top is sweet and crunchy and slightly cinnamon-ny…”
