Book Review: Paleo Comfort Foods
Homestyle Cooking for a Gluten-Free Kitchen
by Julie & Charles Mayfield

I received this book more than a few months ago and have gone through it page by page and have tried at least a dozen of the recipes. It’s been a very handy resource in the kitchen, especially when looking for things to make my ever so skeptical and demanding kids. They always challenge me to make something that is either gluten-free or grain-free that they will approve of and most of the time, I’m successful. Paleo Comfort Foods has made that task even easier and I’m slowly turning my little skeptics into believers. Every page ilicits a response of “ooh” and “ah” and has my kids saying things like, “I could eat that”. This is music to my ears as getting them to look at food and recognize what a healthy diet looks like is important to me.

Julie and Charles Mayfield

Paleo Comfort Foods was written by Julie and Charles Mayfield and is full of some deliciously decadent southern recipes that look as good as the original recipes that inspired them. The most important difference would be that these recipes were designed to promote health and not destroy it.

Seeing that this review is so past due, many of you have probably already gotten your hands on this book. For those of you who haven’t, click here to order your copy and be prepared for the same “oohs” and “ahs” that my kids had (that reaction wasn’t just limited to my kids — it was coming from me just as loudly).

Thank you Julie and Charles for such a great resource.

I recieved this cookbook for Christmas, and I love it!  I did notice a couple recipes were missing a step or a little information.  Since I am a pretty well versed cook, it was no problem, but for  newbie, they might get a little lost.  Ex.: the bread recipe just said pour in a pan, not specifying what size.  It is a great resource, and I would definitely reccommend it to anyone trying to go grain-free or Paleo.
