Now that you’ve heard that wonderful headline, I’ll let you in on the bad news; the gluten-free menu doesn’t have a single pizza or pasta dish. Their gluten-free menu (pdf file) consists mostly of soups, salads, and fish dishes as well as a chicken and fruit dish for the kids. While this is promising news for such a large chain to announce a dedicated gluten-free menu — we can only hope that they have some intention of expanding it sometime soon.
This will be great for those of you who find yourself at a CPK with friends or family and knowing that you’ll have some chance of eating something off of the menu. I haven’t yet heard about how they are handling cross contamination issues in the kitchen — I’m hoping that they will take this seriously and know that special precautions must be taken in order to successfully (and safely) implement a gluten-free menu.

I read that California Pizza Kitchen releases their gluten-free pizza crust June 29, 2011! Yeah! Now to find out about cross-contamination issues!
